The skin
Whether you’re going for a full on glow or a glassy base, skin is in. Makeup artist Haley Bronti says, “this year is very much more glowing skin and very much all around skin prep before any makeup is applied.” If glowy skin isn’t your bag, hair and prosthetic student Amrita Mudan says, “I’ve seen there’s definitely a lot of Korean influence over the past year, and I think people are taking it in their own directions with the ‘glass skin’ trends, especially with brands like Glossier and Milk.” Want to go a bit warmer? Melbourne based makeup artist Jackey Pagey says, “I think bronzed skin is always on trend in the summer and I love to use the MAC cosmetics ‘give me sun’ bronzer to warm up the skin. Liquid illuminators are great for that glowing within look too.”

Colour accents
Colour is creeping its way back into our beauty bags. It’s all about the accents of colour on the lips, eyes, cheeks, and everywhere else. Amrita says, “Colour is huge right now, bright pops of colour over the lid or very plain skin and eyes with a bright lip.” But what colours should you be going for? Jackey says, “I think summer always calls for a bright bold lip, corals, bright pinks and orangey-reds.” Be careful not to be too heavy handed. This look is best worn with a subtler base to let the colour pop.
